Step 4: la scienza

La disciplina scientifica a cui l' ordinatografo appartiene è la topografia. 

La topografia è la scienza che studia gli strumenti e i metodi di calcolo e di disegno, necessari per ottenere una rappresentazione grafica di una qualsiasi parte della superficie terrestre.
La topografia ha origini antichissime e nasce come evoluzione della Geodesia, una scienza che aveva come scopo l’approssimazione della superficie terrestre.
I primi ad utilizzare la topografia furono gli antichi egizi. Le tecniche topografiche vennero poi perfezionate ed utilizzate anche da altre civiltà come i Greci, Romani, Arabi fino ad arrivare al Medioevo. I Romani impiegavano metodi topografici già molto precisi; squadre di topografi (i gromatici), al seguito delle legioni romane tracciavano confini e dividevano le terre conquistate.

L’inizio dei lavori topografici di grande importanza risale invece al XVII secolo con la creazione della prima carta topografica, la Carta di Francia. 

Topography is the science that studies the tools and methods of calculation and drawing, necessary to obtain a graphic representation of any part of the earth’s surface. 
The topography has ancient origins and was born as an evolution of Geodesy, a science that had as its purpose the approximation of the earth’s surface.
The first to use the topography were the ancient Egyptians. The topographical techniques were then perfected and also used by other civilizations such as the Greeks, Romans, Arabs until the Middle Ages. The Romans employed already very precise topographical methods; topographical teams (the Gromatici), following the Roman legions drew boundaries and divided the conquered lands.

The beginning of the topographical works of great importance dates back to the seventeenth century with the creation of the first topographical map, the Map of France.
